Etymology
'non-photoactive' originates from the prefix 'non-' meaning 'not' and 'photoactive' which is derived from 'photo-' meaning 'light' and 'active' meaning 'engaged in action'.
'photoactive' changed from the Greek word 'phōs' meaning 'light' and the Latin word 'activus' meaning 'active', and eventually became the modern English word 'photoactive'.
Initially, 'photoactive' meant 'activated by light', and 'non-photoactive' evolved to mean 'not activated by light'.
