distinctive feature
Etymology
'USP' originates from the marketing term 'Unique Selling Proposition,' where 'unique' meant 'one of a kind,' 'selling' referred to 'the act of promoting,' and 'proposition' meant 'a statement or assertion.'
'Unique Selling Proposition' was coined in the 1940s by advertising executive Rosser Reeves and eventually became abbreviated to 'USP' in modern marketing language.
Initially, it meant 'a unique feature of a product,' and this meaning has largely remained the same in modern usage.
