web page structure
Etymology
'HTML' originates from 'English', specifically the acronym 'HyperText Markup Language', where 'HyperText' refers to text displayed on a computer or other electronic device with references (hyperlinks) to other text that the reader can immediately access.
'HTML' was developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s by Tim Berners-Lee, who was working at CERN at the time. It has since evolved through various versions to become the standard for web page creation.
Initially, it meant 'a language for creating web pages', and this meaning has largely remained the same in modern usage.
